The mission of Olde Worlde Theatre Company is to generate amusing and reflective theatre for people of all ages. Since being founded in February 2003 we have been supported by the Nashville TN area for many productions. In partnership with parents, we strive to reinforce positive values and responsible choices for children.
As a theater collective, we pool our creative talents to adapt fairy tales and other stories to entertain children from ages 3 to 103. Olde Worlde Theatre has spun versions of various classics such as The Emperor's New Clothes, Pinocchio, Puss & Boots, Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, The Frog Prince, Rapunzel, The Pied Piper, The Elves and the Shoemaker, The Three Little Pigs, Sleeping Beauty, Thumbelina, The Wizard of Oz, and Jack and the Beanstalk. A few Halloween season shows include Frankenstein, Dracula, The Magic Sword, Hansel and Gretel, and Snow White.
The troupe consists of people with a variety of backgrounds including early childhood education, modern dance, ballroom dance, mime, experimental theater, parenting, art history, ballet, etc. Many talented children also lend their talents and energy to the troupe.
A group created approach to writing and producing plays offers the troupe members many opportunities to stretch and grow in the craft. The absence of formal scripts allows everyone the opportunity to create a 'one of a kind' performance.
Each individual performance often has it's own unique quality. And it is audience participation that brings an energy to complete the production.
Our theatre "home" is at the Belcourt Theatre. As part of their Kid's Court series, we offer 3 Saturday morning performances 4 times a year. Saturday afternoon performances are also offered to allow more opportunities for the entire family to experience the magic.
With gratitude for your support, we hope you will join us in "mixing the old with the new" in our next production!
"I have been taking my grandson to your plays since he was three. He is just 7, and as we were driving to see Peter and The Wolf, we were talking about the plays we had seen, and how the theater company changes the story a bit. From the back car-seat came, 'like it's not the real story. They make it better.' Many thanks to you all! You are fabulous!" —Julie Russell
